Absolutely awesome (though pricey) taproom/bierhall. Some of the best lagers in the country and good vibes plus board games, a tasty although limited food menu, and live music some nights. Not ideal to drive here but it’s a far walk from the closest T station and there’s actually ample parking if you get there early enough. Would be a regular if I lived nearby. Took a 4-pack of their Zwickel home and couldn’t be more impressed with this place. Just need to make it up to Salem now!
Wee bit off the beaten track if you are walking, but absolutely worth it.
Big focus on Czech and German beer styles that demonstrate that there's more to Lager than you think.
Staff were friendly and gave a bit of history of what the space used to be.
I can't say enough good things about this brewery. The staff was incredibly hospitable and knowledgable. Some of the best lagers I have ever tasted, which is not to be taken lightly given their difficulty to perfect. Next time I make my way up from NJ this is at the top of my list, cheers!
Notch is a great beer spot along Western Avenue in Brighton, Boston. It is about 30 minutes away from Harvard business school by foot. The environment is perfect for large groups because of the community feel of benches. It was raining when I went but the outside seating looks nice for good weather. Staff are friendly. The bathrooms are clean. The Czech beer is available directly from the tank while the other beers come from the Notch Salem location. The Standard beer is most popular. I really liked the large selection of lower alcohol beers of 4-5.5% because many breweries have shifted to higher alcohol and IPAs over the years. There are four sizes options for the beers which allow you to sample more and drink less if you like but it means your beer glass (one size) will look a bit more empty and not as aesthetic. I would definitely return.
Probably my favorite tap room in the area.
Fantastic European style beers - SUCH a nice reprieve from the IPA centric brew scene.
The outdoor beer hall style space is wonderful. Ample shade in the summer, plenty of heaters in the winter. Really excellent special events programming. Live music, drag brunch, bike co-op pop-ups, movie nights, corn hole tourneys, pop-up bazaars, etc.
Once more food options open, it’ll give Bow Market a run for its money!
Highly recommend!!
It is by far one of my favorite breweries in the Commonwealth. Despite the fact that it is their second location with the primary one being in Salem and it's an absolutely amazing brewery. If you are not a fan of IPAs and are looking for a truly authentic central European beer experience this is the place for you. Notch is the only place I know of and the greater Boston area that will actually serve Mliko style pours.
Just moved away from Boston, and we will miss this brewery! Classic beers, and it was our go-to when we had guests in town. Love the courtyard space and long tables. Fun Oktoberfest, too.
Beers are decent but over priced. Location and court yard are great with easy access to food in the same area. What I assume is the owner, is definitely a rules guy. Especially pertaining to dogs and the new rules allowing dogs since June. Posted rules/guidelines may make everyone's lives a lot easier
